On 8th and 9th of September YOU Richmond attended fresher’s week at Richmond College. During these 2 days the officers engaged with the students and handed out 78 YOU London information packs. The average age of the students was 16 years and the majority were interested in the Police Cadets followed by the Army Cadets and St. John’s. Seven of the lecturers took the information packs and stated that they would incorporate YOU London into their lessons to promote the idea of volunteering. The visual displays and information packs were a success in attracting students to enquire about YOU London.

There is a real possibility of an big event in Central London in September to launch the YOU volunteering campaign, as well as developing a recognition award for volunteer leaders in YOU organisations, plus the development of recruiting activities in universities and further education establishments, making use of Freshers fairs and Volunteering fairs during the first few weeks of the new term. We are also producing a new generic YOU leaflet which will point potential volunteers to partner organisation websites to find out more about volunteering within each partner organisation. This is being assisted by support from Cap Gemini. There will be more information about ways and means of recruiting volunteers elsewhere on the website.

What else can we do to help?
