Some impressive military skills were on show at this year’s Elworthy Trophy on Saturday 3 October. It was the first time the event has been hosted by St Dunstan’s School CCF, and what a venue! The school’s ample outdoor space provided the perfect backdrop for the 10 activity stands.
Twelve mixed teams of eight cadets from the four London Sectors of the Army Cadet Force, four London Wings of the RAF Air Cadets, four teams from London Area Sea Cadets and two Combined Cadet Force teams competed in a series of challenges including archery, first aid, an escape room, patrolling, bouldering, marksmanship, STEM and a dead weight pull.
The winning team was 14F (Northolt) Squadron RAF Air Cadets, followed closely followed by 219 (Sutton and Cheam) Squadron RAF Air Cadets.
The coveted Elworthy Sword was presented by Sir Kenneth Olisa OBE, His Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of Greater London. The event is sponsored by the Worshipful Company of Blacksmiths, who provided commemorative coins for winners and runners up, and an Elworthy Trophy pin badge for each participant.
This annual event is a fantastic way to bring London’s military cadets together for some friendly competition, and provides an excellent opportunity for the Reserve Forces and Cadets Association for Greater London to show off the best of London‘s young people to a number of high profile visitors.
