Fire Cadets
For young people aged 13–17
If you're between 13 and 17 and are looking for a fun, challenging and exciting way to gain new skills, then meet the Fire Cadets. Fire Cadets offers you the opportunity to develop your confidence and life skills, learn what it means to be a firefighter and make a positive impact in your community.
It's a totally free programme that runs from a Fire station in your borough one evening per week. It's a bit like Scouts or Guides – only you'll gain real-world skills, make lots of new friends, and have a lot of fun along the way! Did we mention it's completely free?!

What Fire Cadets do
- Try out firefighting equipment and run drills — you'll get to use ladders and hoses!
- Represent London Fire Brigade at local events
- Get active and learn why it's important to keep fit and healthy
- Go on visits, trying different activities and visiting other fire stations

Volunteer with the Fire Cadets
Fire Cadets is only possible because of our Volunteer Fire Cadet Instructors. Volunteers typically help one evening a week and the occasional weekend.
Volunteers don't need to have experience of firefighting or working with young people, just a passion for helping change a young person's life for the better. All volunteers are required to complete mandatory training, as well as undergoing an enhanced DBS check. In return, you'll have the opportunity to gain a range of transferable skills as well as the chance to complete a number of accredited courses.
