Combined Cadet Force

For young people aged Secondary school

The Combined Cadet Force (CCF) is a vibrant youth organisation in over 500 secondary schools across the UK, giving more than 50,000 cadets and 4,000 adult volunteers the chance to take part in challenging, exciting and life-changing activities.

Each CCF school forms its own contingent, with sections linked to the Royal Navy, Royal Marines, Army, Royal Air Force (or a combination of all), offering young people and adult volunteers a unique way to experience the ethos and values of the UK's armed services in a safe, structured environment. Every contingent is a partnership between the school and the Ministry of Defence.

The CCF isn't military training - it's about confidence, character building and practical skills that go far beyond the classroom. From gliding and flying to sailing, fieldcraft, and expeditions, there's something for everyone to discover.

Volunteering with the CCF

Volunteering with the CCF is an opportunity to change young lives - and your own. Our volunteers build confidence, leadership, and resilience in cadets while gaining new skills, qualifications, and experiences themselves.

Every contingent relies on dedicated adults from the school and wider community, and you don't need military experience or to be part of the school where the CCF is based - just enthusiasm, commitment, and a willingness to learn. All non-staff volunteers will complete the necessary DBS checks before appointment.
